In 2015, in response to the Ebola epidemic, Headwaters Relief volunteers and interns developed the illustrated book “When the Great Sickness Came” to help children in West Africa understand their fears and anxieties about the epidemic.

Our partner, Healey International Relief Foundation, a US-based NGO dedicated to improving the quality of life of vulnerable families in Sierra Leone, recently delivered the books to team members in that country for distribution to schools and churches. The book is written in both English and French and offers children techniques to help them understand the virus and coping with loss.
